let's play a game

my cousin had this on his site and i thought it might be fun...

let's all say ten things about ourselves...5 which are true, and 5 which are false. post the answers a week later. let's see how well we know each other....!! comment on which numbers you think are true and which are false, but DON'T provide explanations so everyone can play. some of these are tricky...

1. I sleep with a brown stuffed dinosaur that I've had since I was 3, and his name is Doby.

2. I've never broken a bone in my own body.

3. The white shell necklace that I wear all the time is from Acapulco.

4. My favourite t.v. show is the O.C.

5. My favourite animal is the emu because it is so cute.

6. I'm afraid of cable cars, cockroaches, and porcelain dolls.

7. I used to play the flute.

8. I've never been to France.

9. the misuse of "there", "their", and "they're" is a pet peeve of mine.

10. i believe that there is one true love for every person.

couch hopping

hey guys,

happy to have finally found a place to call my own...a flat at the edge of campus, close to the city, and has an awesome balcony. i can stop this crazy couch hopping (thank you eline and rose, sonja, and max). ate thai last night and vegetarian dim sum for lunch...i don't think i've eaten so much ethnic food my entire life (then again ash - "we're getting chinese food tonight; or as kim calls it, 'food'".) hard to get away from it...it's cheap, it's easy, it's good quality, and it comes in huge quantities. can't wait to start making my own dinners though...anyone have any good recipes to pass along? i think i left my pile of papers (on which have my recipes) shoved into our recipe drawer (sorry roomies..) sure hope you're making me proud and making hundreds of cookies back in guelph. had some good conversation about our different countries last night (compared our t.v. shows - apparently german's have a cartoon about a loaf of bread named Burnt...sounds reminiscent of sponge bob) (oh, and burnt is the name of one of our international friends, so that was a nice source of amusement too). then we intended to go to a short film festival but we went to the wrong side of the water, so we bought gelatissimo and sat on the ground in front of the opera house and listened to the music coming across the water. ate a million pounds of ice cream yesterday...tofu ice cream is surprisingly delicious. meg, you should try some...i'll try and bring some back for yah but first you have to send me a snowball cause i miss snow ;) then, went back and sat around someone's room and chilled and talked for longer...then i crashed on his couch. supposed to stay at sonia's place, but her floor isn't overly comfortable (think concrete floor with thin layer of carpet over it) so i just crashed on max's couch. 5 mins after sonia left the room she was back (they live in a hotel...well, it's part hotel, part student accom...it's all part of this city thing i think), and she ended up having to stay in max's room too cause her card demagnetized so she couldn't get in. i thought it was all terribly funny..luckily there's a whole bunch of beds and a couch so we all had a nice place to sleep. having a great time...can relax now i found a place. going surfing on sat/sun and orientation is wed-fri...woooot.

apparently i'm missing a jack johnson concert here :( new cd coming out...jon sent me "better together" and it's got a cute instrumental part in it...thoroughly enjoyable

if anyone ever sees a t-shirt like this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get it for me...i will love you forever and ever. and i will make you cookies. Posted by Hello

skype rocks

just had a nice little chat with ashleigh...she ended up having to speak whale (a la dory), but good anyways. it's been a really good past three days...went to coogee beach yesterday for a bbq (some foreign looking sausage on a huge bun and watermelon...mmmm...), but didn't go into the water cause there were little bluebell jellyfish everywhere...i hear their sting is quite nasty. went to manly beach the day before (i know, it's a tough life), and got a chance to enjoy the really hot weather...the waves were awesome...can't wait to learn how to surf...which is potentially happening on monday and tuesday! woooooot! plus, we got to play frisbee on the beach and in the water, which is always good times. i'm not much of a suntanner..which should be no surprise to anyone that has seen me, but the beach is always good times.
went out last night...i'm beginning to see why people like the city...there's always something going on! we walked around and checked out lots of bars (apparently one bar for every 50 people) and jumped in whenever it seemed hopping enough. we also walked down to darling harbour (the ritzier area by the water) and sat and had a few drinks there...actually, i lie, we only had one drink because a cocktail was 16 dollars! though, i think you also pay for the entertainment cause the bartenders are very Tom Cruise in Cocktail. all the major attractions in sydney are so close together...makes it easy to go wherever you feel like at any time...and i'm not sure if bars ever close. for some reason i doubt it.
been hanging out with lots of europeans...it's been really good..especially since i find that a lot of the international students are only spending time with people from their own country. especially the americans, but i suppose it's harder for them to hang out with other people since like, 400 of the 500 international students are american...they really come in full force. i learned that doggie bags are a big no-no in europe. i must keep that in mind...
i've also become quite proficient at using a mobile (cell phone). i can even SMS (text message). this makes me a little sad...but i see why people are so obssessed with it. i find myself using it so many times in one day...to call landlords, to tell my cousins where i am, to call people when we're supposed to meet up and they're lost (or i'm lost), etc etc etc. unfortunately this kind of thing is really expensive here in oz (something crazy like 60 cents a minute), so i've been eating away at phone cards. having mobiles also means that people don't have to be as organized, so that means that our 12 person group takes at least an hour to decide anything and finally meet up...i like the good ol' days when everything was planned ahead and you knew exactly when to meet and who you were meeting with and if someone was late, they got left behind. it's a cruel world. or used to be, anyways.
anyways, things are really going here now...it makes me so happy :)

miss you guys,

kim

p.s send me pictures if you have some!

i'm sad that no one is responding..

but i will forge on anyways. i guess more for my sake than yours. but to those who haven't made any comments yet, i think blogger doesn't insist on your signing up anymore (sorry to all those who already did). so pppllllleeeassseeeee write something...mostly cause it makes me feel better...okay...ONLY cause it makes me feel better :)

anyways, lots to talk about. orientation for international students has begun! which means i've actually had time to meet people and have some fun. unfortunately fun must be cut short every night for me cause i live so far away from the city and my family doesn't like it when i come home late cause their area is quite dangerous. so, i've found ways around that and i'm crashing at people's places til i FINALLY find my own place. finding a place has been a bit of a soap opera in itself. i thought i had found a place in an apartment with two guys i had met at the orientation, but when they went to go see it (i couldn't go), it ended up not being furnished...and somewhere along the way the two guys had a bit of a falling out. so, they don't really talk, but they still want to find a place with me...so, i'm just going to avoid the drama and find my own place. people are starting to break down here. it's so frustrating finding a place and lots of us haven't found anything yet. it's not easy like it is at home...but, i'm holding up and just looking the future (surfing, baby). WOOOOOT.
i signed up for a drawing class!! i said, "screw it, i'm not doing all hard courses"...so i chose drawing. they can't fail people in a drawing class, right? they said you don't have to have any experience, so i figure that's right down my alley!! i can't believe i get credit for this...so wicked.
last night we went out for drinks at darling harbour. drinks were great, the harbour was beautiful (in that city kind of way), and the company was good...however, getting there was a bit of a story. so let me tell it to you... first, i had to get to my friend's place to drop off my bags for the next day (cause i had enrolment). so, i go to train station and it says it's going to come in 3 minutes. 3 minutes later nothing shows up and the screen now says it never existed. fine. so, 17 more minutes to wait. 5 minutes later i look up at the screen and there are 17 minutes to wait. strange. 5 minutes later i look up again and there are 20 minutes to wait. even stranger. 15 minutes later there are 17 minutes to wait. i think maybe it has something to do with being in the south hemisphere. or the fact that the trains suck here. anyways, i take train to central station and run around looking for the platform to take me to green square. i find it and frantically run onto the train. the conductor asks me where i'm going. I reply, "green square". he replies, "get off the train". wrong train. i look at screen and it says that the train going to green square is directly across the previous one mentioned, so i run onto that one. i even ask someone if it's the right one and they tell me yes. then, PA system comes on and i hear "mumble mumble mumble, police, mumble mumble". the guy who told me i was on the right train dashes off the train. i start to worry. he runs back on and tells me to get off. i get off. look at screen, notice the right train is now on the other side, so i run onto opposite train. then, more mumbling and i have to get off again. meanwhile, no one else is running around like my, but there are many people standing looking pissed off. i go ask what the hell is going on and they say that someone is standing in a tunnel somewhere, and the police are trying to get him out, so the trains going that way aren't running...and schedules are changing every 10 seconds. i wait 20 more minutes (i'm already really late) and decide to try my luck with a cab. run outside, catch cab. we drive around for way too long cause he doesn't really know where he's going. then, i call my friends and they tell me they're waiting for me outside their house...funny, cause i'm driving up and down the small road and not seeing them. i ask for intersection, look on map, and drive to that location. and they're not there. so, we're all really confused at this point. then, i notice on the map that there is another street of the same name about 4 streets down...
in addition to all that, my 40-something cab driver asked me on a date. i thought he was joking and laughed at him...but apparently not so much joking. don't worry folks, i used the good ol', "i'm halfway around the world from home and don't want to start a long distance relationship". phew.
